Compliance – Looking Ahead
The HPO is planning to bolster its compliance team with the addition of four compliance positions. These include: a compliance analyst and three regional compliance investigators.
The compliance analyst will assist the HPO compliance team in identifying trends of non-compliance and follow-up on allegations of non-compliance by builders, developers and owners. This position will assist the compliance investigators in pursuing cases of identified non-compliance and their use of compliance orders and monetary penalties allowed under the Homeowner Protection Act and its regulations.
The regional compliance investigators will be responsible for ensuring compliance in the northern part of B.C., Vancouver Island, and the Okanagan and Kootenay regions. They will work out of BC Housing’s regional offices located in Prince George, Victoria and Penticton. With the new compliance analyst and an increased regional presence, the HPO branch of BC Housing will better fulfill its mandate of ensuring compliance with the Act and its regulations, and the protection of consumers of new homes within B.C.
