Changes to Fees
Effective November 19, 2007, anyone wishing to build their own home under the owner-builder exemption will be required to meet specific criteria, obtain an authorization from the HPO and pay a fee to cover administration and compliance costs associated with the owner-builder authorization.
These new fees - which include fees for an Owner Builder Authorization ($425) and waiver applications ($100) - are explained in the Summary of Fees (See fees 1-3).
The Per Unit Residential Builders Licence Fee (4) has not been changed since the introduction of Residential Builder Licensing in July 1999. It will rise to $40 from $25 on November 19, 2007. This fee is in addition to the existing flat rate licence fee and serves to differentiate between large and small volume builders.
The flat rate licence fee is unchanged at $600 for new licences, with a $500 annual license renewal fee. If a residential builder wishes to change information on the licence midway through the licence year, there will be a licence change fee of $100 (3).
