Building Smart #15 - Homes for Life: Building for Now and the Future

The demographic shift our province is undergoing is having an effect on the way the construction industry designs and builds homes. Rather than moving to new homes as they enter different stages of their lives, more British Columbians are seeking homes that can be adapted to their needs as they age.

The HPO’s latest Building Smart seminar series examines this trend and offers industry professionals insights on ways to meet customer needs. Homes for Life: Building for Now and the Future started in September and continues in 18 communities across the province, ending mid-November.

“Adaptable homes include value-added features that increase the market value of a home now and in the future,” said Murray Frank, who has been presenting Building Smart seminars on behalf of the HPO since the inception of the program. This three-hour practical seminar also looks at strategies for energy efficient homes and sustainable communities.

Building Smart #15 seminar was produced by the HPO in collaboration with the SAFERhome Standards Society, Building and Safety Standards Branch, Planning Institute of British Columbia and the City of Vancouver.

The registration cost of $39 (including HST) includes sandwiches and light refreshments before the presentation.
