Next Generation: Future of the Housing Industry in British Columbia
In the last 10 years, the market housing industry in British Columbia has gone from a basket case to an economic powerhouse. This remarkable turnaround is the result of a tremendous effort on the part of the industry to meet the demand from our growing population for sophisticated, high quality new homes to meet their needs.
The Homeowner Protection Office is proud of the role it has played in providing the best system of consumer protection for new home buyers in Canada. To mark its 10th anniversary and British Columbia’s 150th anniversary, the HPO sponsored this one-day conference on May 27, 2008 to bring together all sectors of the market housing industry to explore the trends and challenges we will face in the coming years.
Keynote presenters provided thoughtful perspectives on the forces shaping the housing market and the industry, combining insights and expertise from British Columbia and around the world with the results of new research commissioned by the HPO for this conference. This set the stage for informed commentary by both seasoned and up-and-coming industry leaders, bringing into focus one challenge we already know about: the need for skilled labour.
At the end of the day, the wealth of information generated at the conference was distilled into a perspective from a nationally respected expert who has been deeply involved in efforts to raise the bar of professionalism in British Columbia’s residential construction industry.
